The History Of impact

Impact Community Church began as a church plant of Stadia: New Church Strategies in March 2000. Stadia, a national church-planting ministry out of Northern, CA, hired Barry on September 1, 1999. Barry, a youth pastor with 10 years experience, and his wife Tammy moved from Indianapolis to Elk Grove to “plant” Impact. Despite his colorful past, Barry was being shaped by God for something special.

The idea for Impact began while Barry was attending Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO. It was there that he began to envision a place where thousands upon thousands of lives would be changed by the heart of God.

While at Kingsway Christian Church in Indianapolis, Barry prayed daily for two years about leading a church. It was while attending graduate school at Cincinnati Bible College that God confirmed His decision and plans were put in place. Nine months later, they packed bags and moved to California.

The pre-launch team for Impact began meeting in Barry's and Tammy's living room and quickly grew from six on the first Sunday to over 60 before launch! The Smiths had their first baby, Max, on March 11, 2000. God has a great sense of timing considering that our church had its grand opening on March 12, 2000. Two "births" in two days. Awesome!

In May 2002 Impact moved from the space it had been using at Cosumnes River College to our current location at E. Stockton and Power Inn. We now reach over 600 people every Sunday and Barry's messages are being viewed each week by people all over the country.

In February of 2003 Impact helped plant a daughter church called Lifepointe Christian Church in Laguna, just 8 miles away. Lifepointe currently attracts about 300 people each Sunday. A previous youth pastor also planted a church in Lathrop, Ca back in spring of 2005. In addition, we will be planting a church; building a building that will function as a school, medical clinic and church and digging a water well- all in Nigeria before the end of 2007. Lives continue to change not only in Sacramento but worldwide as well.

Impact is also a part of a Church Planting Network (CPN) with like-minded church plants, including our daughter church, in hopes to plant another church in Sacramento at the end of 2008 or sometime in 2009.

Even though attendance has surpassed the 1000 mark at Easter and currently is averaging over 700... It’s more exciting to see people come to faith in Christ. Since Impact began, there has been over 400 baptisms! That's right at one per week. With God working so powerfully through Impact, you'd be hard pressed to find many other churches in America that's seen this much happen in such a short time. What might God have in store for us?
